is there a limit size in edit commands ?

When editing large files with cfengine, we get this message:

cfengine:ourmachine: File /etc/passwd is bigger than the limit
<editfilesize>
cfengine:ourmachine: File was marked for editing

In this case we couldn't edit the password file because cfengine says
it's too big. Is there a way to make that limit greater?

Is this normal ? Is there a drawback?
