Thanks for the reply.

I tried force=true on the copy, and that doesn't seem to make a 
difference.

There doesn't seem to be a force=true option on link.  There is
a nofile=force which doesn't make a difference.  But I think you're
misunderstanding the situation.  I'm not trying to link to files that
don't exist.  The problem is that what should be a link already exists 
as a file and I can't seem to find any way to get cfengine to update
correctly that case.

I have binaries abc, abc2

I want          abc2 to be updated with the new binary
                abc to be replaced with a soft link to abc2

Any more ideas, please let me know.
