Mark,

I installed the newer version (2.0.4pre) on both the machine running cfservd
and the "client" machine that I was running cfagent on and was able to
reproduce the problem.

The ips I am actually using are in the 192.168 space and my domain is the same
as my email address. Nothing odd there. I am *not* using DNS, just host
files for these machines as I am testing out my cfengine config before I
deploy it across my production network. Could that be a potential problem?
Are there any known issues in the absence of full DNS?

My config seems to be ok as everything works most of the time.

Both machines are running RedHat 7.3 with the 2.4.18-3 kernel as compiled by
Redhat. My glibc version is 2.2.5.-34, again stock from redhat.

I will be happy to perform any further testing or debugging that will help you
resolve the issue.

Here is the debug output from the masterhost that was running cfservd:
(cfservd -d 2 --no-fork)

...

Here is the matching strace output:

sigreturn() = ? (mask now [RTMIN])
stat64("/var/cfengine/inputs/cfservd.conf", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0600,
st_size=1108, ...}) = 0
write(1, "Checking file updates on /var/cf"..., 79) = 79

_exit(1) = ?

If you would like to see config files or anything else please let me know. I
am anxious to resolve this issue successfully.

I have seen enough of cfengine to know that I need it :-) I sure don't want
to manage my machines "by hand" ever again...

Thanks again for your help on this.

-Sean
