I have flex installed already.  configure picks up on it too.

$ grep flex config.log
configure:3978: checking for flex
configure:4004: result: /usr/local/bin/flex

ac_cv_prog_LEX=/usr/local/bin/flex
LEX='/usr/local/bin/flex'
$ flex -V
flex version 2.5.4
$ which flex
/usr/local/bin/flex

You need to install flex, I have submitted a patch to configure that
will cause it to error if flex is not installed.
