It depends on how you want to implement your software roll out/upgrade.

One way to do this is to force every host using cfrun to perform some
task that upgrades/installs cfengine. Some would argue this is not the
cfengine way.

Another way is to allow cfengine to perform this task on its own and
install software on a host when cfagent deemed it necessary.

The problem with either of these is that you must have cfengine
installed on a host to have it do anything. If you already have 1200
hosts deployed, I don't see any easy way for you to "push" cfengine out
to these other than some ssh script.

If you are building these hosts, you could use jumstart (solaris)
kickstart (rh) or some other bootstrap system to add the relevant
binaries to the host for this purpose. Then use cfengine to upgrade
itself.

I am trying to install cfengine on 1200 machines.  I would like to use
cfengine to accomplish this.  But does this mean I would have to list
each host machine (1200) in the cfrun.hosts file?
