Does cfengine work across different DNS domains? I just run into a
strange problem that suggests it does not. Some of our hosts are in
the berkeley.edu domain while others are part of
subdomain.berkeley.edu. Since we eventually want to move all of our
hosts into subdomain.berkeley.edu, we're using subdomain.berkeley.edu
as the cfengine domain. Since I have been testing cfengine setup only
with the hosts in the subdomain.berkeley.edu domain, everything was
working fine but I just run into problems with machines in the
berkeley.edu domain. For example, we have somehost.berkeley.edu that's
supposed to be managed with the same cfengine installation used in
subdomain.berkeley.edu domain. When I attempt to run cfagent on that
machine, it doesn't work and I see cfservd messages in the logs on the
server that look like this:
"DNS lookup of somehost.subdomain.berkeley.edu failed"
"Failed on DNS reverse lookup of somehost.somedomain.berkeley.edu"
"Failed on DNS reverse lookup of somehost.somedomain.berkeley.edu"
"Client sent: xxx.xx.xxx.xxx somehost.somedomain.berkeley.edu root 0"
etc.
Why is cfservd attempting to lookup somehost.subdomain.berkeley.edu
when the machines host name is really somehost.berkeley.edu?
