Is the hostname here the FQDN or just the first part?

Give 2.1.0b4 a try, setting the control variable HostnameKeys = ( true ).

You will have to go through the key exchange again, or rename the key
files, but this will make cfengine use keynames user-hostname instead of
user-ipaddress.

There is a loss of exchange security in the sense that one must trust DNS
or a name assertion, but once the keys are exchanged, there is no
difference,

I have not tested this new option, so please give it a go.

hope this helps.

In the book, Automating Unix and Linux Administration, it says that, "It
is difficult, if not impossible, to use cfengine with dynamic
IPaddresses". Has anyone actually had success with Red Hat clients, ie
laptops, which go on/off network at any time and loses their IP
addresses? If so, please let me know how this
is done in cfengine.

Thanks,
