Yeah, that's a linuxism, as you say. There doesn't seem to be a standard
for retrieving the DNS domain, other than 'grep ^domain /etc/resolv.conf',
but most hosts support setting /bin/domainname to return the DNS domain
without requiring NIS. I have yet to see a case where the two are
incompatible, so I just use /bin/domainname when I can, and
/etc/resolv.conf when I can't.
