Excluding directories in recursive copies

Hi All,

Feeling a little silly here - in a recursive copy, I don't want a 
particular directory to get copied - it's a hidden directory (.dirname) 
and I can't seem to stop it - I've tried "exclude=.dirname" with every 
every combination of  wildcards and am now resorting to banging my head 
against a wall.  One of those "tired" things, I'm thinking.

What have I missed in the documentation?
