For what it's worth...Last week I rebuilt everything with libd3.3 (static, but then I've always done static linking with cfengine) and my hangs and coredumps has dropped dramatically. Previously, I had built against 4.1 and 4.2; I did have some problems with header/binary mismatches (as Mark mentioned earlier), but even when that was straightened out the fact remained that 2.1.x compiled against BerkeleyDB 4.1+ was simply not stable for me. I'm still getting some isolated problems, but nowhere near the widespread issues I was having before.
