If dvips is not installed, then the PDFs of the documentation will not
build - in fact, the compilation stops altogether.
Also, it appears that strrchr has a conflict with a prototype.
I'm using CentOS 3.1 (that is, Red Hat Enterprise Linux Advanced Server
3) and gcc 3.2.3.
