In general, GNU lists have a policy of allowing non-subscriber posts
(there is a human moderator in the loop, so your reply may have a delay,
but it should get through), and list readers know to reply-to-all to
cater to non-subscribers. You don't need to subscribe to comment on a
bug, just send email to address@hidden

That should be sufficient; bug-gzip is one of the lists that follows GNU
policy; and posting to that address auto-creates a bug number.
