Some very kind souls are giving me great feedback.

Bug: Some tests are bison-dependent. I did not verify that $(YACC) is bison in 
the
configure script.

SUCCESSES:
    MacOS X.0.1/gcc 
    Linux xxxx/gcc

FAILURES:
    SCO OpenServer 5.0.4/cc
    SunOS 5.8/cc

Both of the above failures are in TESTS/test-string-r/scanner.c
  cc -I. -I"." -I.. -g -c scanner.c
  "scanner.c", line 786: undefined symbol: yy_globals

  I'm guessing this is a preprocessor problem?
