I usually just use Vim but a while back I played around with Bluefish 
and created a first draft AWK syntax file[1] for it from existing Ada 
and shell syntax files.  Maybe it's easier to hack than Geany?

Feel free to submit whatever you come up with to the Bluefish project 
for inclusion if you think it's worthwhile.
