ELSE not compatible with any other major/minor mode of EMACS?

Hi,

I intend to use ELSE (Language sensitivity) in minor mode along with the 
programming major mode (c-mode) and other minor modes such as setnu (set 
line number). But anytime I turn on ELSE, the other modes quit working. For 
instance, the programming mode does not do indentation or syntax 
highlighting; setnu - does not generate line numbers. Has anyone noticed 
this and is there a workaround? Thanks in advance for your response.
