Dear emacs-ers,

I'd like to compile emacs 21.3 on an IBM p690, which is a Power4
running AIX 5.2.

The Power4 is a 64bit architecture, and I'd like to compile emacs to
have the very large maximum buffer size.

"configure" identifies the host system type as ibm-powerpc-aix-5.2.0.0
but selects s/aix-3.2.h and m/ibmrs6000.h

Not too surprisingly, I get lots of warnings and eventually a fatal
error as a result. Here is the tail of the make log, showing some of
the problems and the fatal error.

  "./s/aix3-2.h", line 22.2: 1506-224 (I) Incorrect pragma ignored.
  "/usr/include/sys/signal.h", line 1086.1: 1506-137 (W) Declaration must
declare at least one declarator, tag, or the members of an enumeration.
  "systty.h", line 126.10: 1506-296 (S) #include file <sys/hft.h> not found.
"xterm.c", line 154.9: 1506-236 (W) Macro name abs has been redefined.
  "xterm.c", line 154.9: 1506-358 (I) "abs" is defined on line 463 of
/usr/include/stdlib.h.
  "xterm.c", line 7696.48: 1506-342 (W) "/*" detected in comment.
  "xterm.c", line 7697.37: 1506-342 (W) "/*" detected in comment.
make: 1254-004 The error code from the last command is 1.
  Stop.
make: 1254-004 The error code from the last command is 2.

I have the native AIX cc, not gcc.

Does anyone have any suggestions to help me get started on making this
work?

Larry
