My guess is that Emacs doesn't like it because the 1* encoding may match more than 1 character set: so specify 1 for Latin 1 (or N for Latin N). P.S. Are you sure you want to specify the font's pixel size (12) instead of it's decipoint size (120)? Using pixel size means the font will vary depending on your display resolution. -- Kevin Rodgers
