i updated to ncurses-5.3 with the patchlevel to 20030712, which is more recent
even that what redhat use, and the problem still appears.

should i email the ncurses maintainer? i dont think ncurses is to blame however,
as it is actively maintained, and i am sure redhat changes are merged back in. i
very much doubt a mistake would have stayed in the xterm TERM entries after all
this time!
