How do I get CPerl Mode to respect Comments

Many times in CPerl mode I will have a comment like:

# Author: daniel@mathjunkies.com.

CPerl colors the @mathjunkies.com like it was an array -- and ignores
the fact that it is a comment.

I get the same problem with code I comment out, that still stands out.

Is there a way to tell CPerl mode that there should be no highlighting
whatsoever in a comment?
