diary problem

I've created a diary file (with "i d" in calendar) for one event
for today. The diary file was created in my home directory (same as
for .emacs). The last line in my .emacs is (diary). But when I start
emacs diary do not display no event from diary. When I run M-x diary from
emacs then the diary display a right appointment. Any idea why
(diary) from .emacs do not work?
