Hi. This may be a quixotic long shot, but I am wondering if anyone
knows a way to connect to a telnet server running on an AS/400 via
emacs.

This is at work (so i am stuck with MS-Windows XP (GNU Emacs 21.3.1
(i386-mingw-nt5.1.2600) of 2004-03-10 on NYAUMO)).

I can:

1) Connect to said 400 from a DOS box either with jTelnet, another
command line telnet client recommended in the Windows emacs FAQ, or
plink (from the Putty distribution) or the Windows default DOS box
client. In all cases the display is fine.

2) I can also use at least jtelnet and the FAQ recommended client using
M-x telnet (if i set it up) to connect to normal telnet servers on
linux boxes.

But when i try to connect using M-x telnet to the 400 i either get a
bunch of control characters or, if not, then the text is wrapped in one
giant line--without the normal line-breaks.

I've done some playing around with M-x shell, M-x term, M-x telnet,
fill-column, auto-fill... etc. tn5250 seems only to be a windowed app
in Windows, so i don't think i can use that.... Any thoughts would be
appreciated.

If you are wondering why i want to do this, it is because i am
bloody-minded and want to be able to do everything in emacs :-)
