This version of Emacs doesn't support XFT fonts. What you need is the
emacs-unicode-2 branch in the CVS repository, you can checkout the
source code with this command:
cvs -z3 -d:pserver:anonymous@cvs.savannah.gnu.org:/sources/emacs \
co -r emacs-unicode-2 emacs
