Alleged Anti-Semitic Remarks Get Judith Regan Fired

Rupert Murdoch refuses to tolerate anti-Semitic remarks from Judith
Regan - therefore the controversial publisher has been fired.

Regan had a telephone conversation with a lawyer for HarperCollins, a
division of Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation, in which she made
several anti-Semitic remarks. ReganBooks is in turn a subdivision of
HarperCollins.

The New York Times reported on Friday that the publisher parted ways
with HarperCollins so suddenly because of her racial comments. Rupert
Murdoch apparently stated he would not tolerate "that kind of
behavior" and gave HarperCollins chief executive Jane Friedman
permission to fire Regan.

During the telephone conversation, Regan allegedly complained that
there is a "Jewish cabal" against her in the book industry and
commented that "Of all people, Jews should know about ganging up,
finding common enemies and telling the big lie."

The lawyer she said this to, Mark Jackson, took notes during their
talk. They were discussing another controversial project of Regan's,
a fictional biography of baseball star Mickey Mantle, according to a
News Corp. spokesperson.

Judith Regan has hired Hollywood lawyer Bert Fields, who has said the
anti-Semitic remarks are "completely untrue", and that his client
"didn't have an anti-Semitic bone in her body." Regan's legal
representative is threatening her former employer with a libel suit.

Judith Regan, age 53, has been working for HarperCollins since 1994,
having her own subdivision entitled ReganBooks. Her announcement, in
November 2006, that she would publish OJ Simpson's book, "If I Did
It", generated a great controversy, as it was largely considered to
be a confession of murder.

In late November, News Corp. announced that it would no longer publish
the book or air a planned Fox interview with OJ.

It remains to be seen what will happen to those working at ReganBooks.
In a statement HarperCollins said, "Any future decisions relating to
the imprint name or the publication of unpublished books will be
addressed at the appropriate time."

What is surprising to most is that the publisher didn't get fired
because of her failed OJ Simpson - instead getting fired for her
surprisingly racial remarks.

Judith Regan is also a mother of two; she has a 25-year-old son and a
15-year-old daughter.
