In answers to one of my many questions, Tassilo Horn gave me this
reply which worked nicely. Thanks to him:
Select a nice font with xfontsel and place it in your ~/.Xdefaults or
~/.Xressources. For example I have:
,----[ ~/.Xdefaults ]
[...]
| Emacs.Font: -misc-fixed-medium-r-normal--14-130-75-75-c-70-
iso10646-1
[...]
