That's quite alright, you have any idea why one works and the other doesn't? After playing around a bit, the two '*' in a row seem to cause it to fail?
Fontification is quite tricky, especially the comments. It looks like a bug too me. If you are using a recent Emacs then you should perhaps file a bug report?
