I'll second that! I was facing tramp problems [albeit with 'sudo' on
my Mac], and I found that the problems [endless 'waiting 60s for ...']
went away when I switched back to a simple setting for 'PS1'
Now,
PS1: "\W\$ "
and tramp works fine.
