I'm not under this impression.  I think the listing (C-x C-b) facility
is useful because working on many buffers is permitted.  And switching
(C-x b) is easy thanks to completion.  Ido-mode can also help here.

Maybe intensive customization leave each one of us with the impression
that his/her customization is the best for everyone and should be the
default.  I personally don't think it's a good idea to rebind C-w, for
example.
