How to add a abbreviation mode for ESS SAS mode

Hi,

I am attempting to adapt a local abbreviation mode for ESS SAS mode.  The mode does not have its proper abbreviation-mode, hence when I use M-x add-mode-abbrev while editing in the SAS mode of ESS, the abbreviations are added under the fundamental-mode.    There are two things that I would like to achieve:

  1. Write/Adapt an abbreviation table to use when I edit SAS code

  1. Have the abbreviation start with a character such as ‘;’ like the fortran mode for instance.

Can someone point me to easiest route toward achieving that goal?  I have looked at other modes with abbreviation-table and tried to modify but I had no success.

Regards,

Dominic.
