no. the directory in which antiword.exe is located should be on your PATH.

what happens when you open a command prompt and type 'antiword'? if your PATH is
properly set up, the command should be found. if not, you'll get an error.

these are indeed different. but that's not relevant to your problem. emacs uses
shell-command-on-region to run antiword, i.e., it starts up a DOS shell and
tells it to run antiword. but the DOS shell can't find antiword.

this is also true (at least on unix, don't know about windows, TBH) but also not
relevant to the problem.
