Temporarily turn off a minor mode

Hi all,

I want to temporarily turn off specific minor modes in certain major
mode. so I have the following settings:

;; linum-mode is default on
(global-linum-mode 1)

;; add-hook to turn off linum-mode in the Info-mode
(add-hook 'Info-mode-hook
  '(lambda ()
         (linum-mode -1)))

But it doesn't work. I also tried to turn off visual-line-mode, the
result is the same. So what is the correct way to turn off them
temporarily?
