What do you mean by 'graphical'?
You would have to do a bit of work to get a non-graphical emacs
nowadays?
Could you share your OS/distro and M-x emacs-version?
As for wordstar have you tried M-x wordstar-mode?
(Genuinely asking: it may hardly be maintained for quite a while)
