"Unstable" means that the code basis is still in development. And nothing else.
The GNU Emacs 24.3.50 snapshots I used where mostly rock-steady. If not, then I
could update the next day and had again a reliable tool.
You can also try the "pretest" of GNU Emacs 24.3: GNU Emacs 24.2.92, available
as:
ftp://alpha.gnu.org/gnu/emacs/pretest/emacs-24.2.92.tar.gz
ftp://alpha.gnu.org/gnu/emacs/pretest/emacs-24.2.92.tar.xz
You'll need to configure, compile, and install yourself…
