repeat C-x z

Is there a function to repeat the last X commands?

Repeat would be much more useful if the numeric argument passed said x
parameter -- rather than an arg that repeats the last command x number of
times.

However, such a function may already exist; or mod of a function.

To be clear, the following functionality is desired (and I will send a
feature request if such a feature does not exist):

(using Emacs default bindings):

(1) M-3
(2) C-x z
(3) [last three commands are run, in this sequence:
antepenultimate->penultimate->ultimate]
(4) z [repeats (2) this until I press something else)
