On Mac OS X in particular, I've had good luck with the Homebrew system
to install GnuPG and other useful tools. I even install Emacs with it:
`brew reinstall emacs --HEAD --use-git-head --cocoa --srgb --with-gnutls
--with-imagemagick && brew linkapps'
