The help for `gnus-summary-line-format' says:
%D Date of the article (string)
%d Date of the article (string) in DD-MMM format
%o Date of the article (string) in YYYYMMDD`T'HHMMSSÂ format
Of these, I'd say %o is something a computer or
autistic genius would parse, so try %D and %d, as in:
(setq gnus-summary-line-format "%*%U%3{%R%} %I%0{%f%} %1{%s%} %D\n")
If you wonder what the %1{ ... %} are, it is to set
the face to `gnus-face-1' and so on. So how good it
looks depends what colors those faces are set to, and
what those colors are. If you think it could look
good, then I guess it should.
By the way, the 0 can probably be removed as %{ ... %}
defaults to 0, i.e. `gnus-face-0' which is `bold'
by default.
