I have a small variation on this, though for local, not over ssh, and
I'm on emacs 26.1.

Try something like:

  emacsclient -n -c -F "((user-position.t)(height.24))"

You may need to add "-d $DISPLAY" though emacsclient should honor the
DISPLAY environment variable.

You may also add (width.XX) to the -F parameter alist, if you don't like
the default.
