That could be the problem for me. 

Gnus prompts for the gpg
passphrase but then does not use
the line within .authinfo.gpg . It
asks for the name and password
again and writes to .authinfo file 
despite the nnimap configuration [1]
having .authinfo.gpg as the file
to use.
