OK, I have no idea, this (and the Gnus startup
delay of 45s) seem like, yeah, it shouldn't be.
I never experienced any of it using Gnus for
10 years soon, I think.

Maybe Comrade Ingebrigtsen and the gang are
reading this and can offer some
explanation/remedy just what is happening
during those delays.
