I found a workaround... I change the default, inserting "scp:" ... e.g.,
"/remo:~/dir/dir2/" -> "/scp:remo:~/dir/dir2/".  I doubt, however, that
this workaround will change the emacs code.

"/remo:~/dir/dir2/"
