The original post contained this wording:

At least in master one gets:

| To check whether the minor mode is enabled in the current buffer,
| evaluate the variable ‘auto-fill-function’.

which is (as opposed to the first version) ok to me.  "Check
the binding" would be a bit better IMO, but I don't find anything
confusing in the current wording.  I should have checked earlier.
