GNU patch

I am currently trying to install the Perl module on Solaris 2.6.

I have downloaded and installed the libpng and zlib libraries and built
libgd (albeit as a static library)

The installation instructions for state that the libgd distribution
must be patched using '' which uses GNU patch to cause the make
process to build dynamically linkable libraries. I have downloaded and built
version 2.5. and 2.5.4 of GNU patch but the usage output for the resulting
utility does not match the commands which the script is
attempting to execute. The notes do state that Solaris does not have a
suitable version of patch and that I must install GNU patch myself. This is
what I thought I had done but the make of the libgd library and subsequent
'make test' give warnings/errors.

I'm sure that a number of people have encountered this same problem so if
you could direct me to a suitable FAQ or forward this to someone who may
have the answer it would be much appreciated.

Regards, Steve Jones
