SU Incorrect Password

Hello,

I am having trouble with su.  Every time I try to use it as I get "Incorrect 
Password".  I am sure that the password is correct because I can login or ssh
as root.

I have a feeling that it is a permissons problem.I accendentaly started
restting the permissions on all the files to 777 recently and tried to undo
what I did.  Perhaps there is a log file that su is trying to write to or a
file that su reads that needs to be more secure?
