tar installer not work properly

Hi,
I have a problem to extract this application using 'tar'. I've try to
'gzip -d -c XXX | tar xvf -' but does not work. The error message is :
> XXX/logs, 0 bytes, 0 tape blocks
> XXX/work, 0 bytes, 0 tape blocks
> tar: directory checksum error
Is it i try to install the gnu tar installer.
