	Island Encounter is a unique and exciting mission opportunity to work with our Bahamian churches in one of the many areas of great need. From children's crusades to building homes you are able to use the ministry talents of your team to make a difference in the spiritual life of our island neighbors. This is the 40th year for the encounter mission program and it's our privilege to offer this opportunity to your youth organization. We believe that Island Encounter provides an avenue of ministry for your youth to fulfill the great commission of Jesus in touching their world for Him. The beautiful tropical island and its warm and friendly people offers you an affordable experience of a lifetime. What makes it work? It's working with...not for our churches. The Island Encounter directors have taken much time to understand the customs and methods of our Bahamian community. With the assistance of Raoul Armbrister (Island Director), we have prepared training materials that will assist you in being a part of this beautiful culture. The church of your choice will be joining you in the directing of your ministry project. We share the ministry equally. (The two teams become one). Each learning from the other. It's Director Led You, the Director, are in charge! We assist you with a tailor made itinerary and mission program, but you do the directing! 	Mission Projects
	Your choice of the type of ministry, church and island community. (Refer to the mission projects below) Seven Days. (Saturday - Saturday) Two (2) nights in Fort Lauderdale and six (6) days and (5) nights in Freeport, Bahamas. Dates Available are from July through August. We can assist groups desiring to go during Spring Break, Thanksgiving, Christmas and some other dates on a space available basis. Cruise from Port Everglades to Port Lucaya. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner on the ship and two (2) large buffet meals each day on the island. (Delicious island foods) Beach front hotels. Four (4) to the room and the rooms are large. Bus (Jitneys) from the hotel to the mission site. Worship island style with your host church on Sunday and Wednesday evenings. The Bahamian church is what you will remember most about the island! Thursday evening you will participate in the Grand Bahama Celebration. Both Bahamian and USA praise music, Team Reports, Testimonies, Bonfire and an Island Bar-B-Que. Tuesday night enjoy island cuisine, music and shopping at the Port Lucaya Market. Time to Enjoy the many island activities.	There are 135 churches on the island. Most are located in the fishing villages.
	Mission Projects: Construction / Community Service Mission Crusades Sports Clinics Nursing Clinics Construction / Community Service The construction and community service projects vary both in size and the amount of dollars needed for materials. Clean up and light repair - $500.00 to $2000.00 Furniture construction - $500.00 to $1500.00 Roof and structure repair - $1000.00 to $2500.00 New Construction - $2000.00 to $25,000.00 There is something for any person who would like to serve in the capacity. Due to the special nature and sometimes the distance needed to travel to the project, we will work with each team on a one-to-one basis. 	Mission Crusades Children's Crusades....similar to a VBS or Back Yard Bible School program Street Ministry....involves door to door as well as village services Music Ministry....Local churches, community buildings, children orphanages, half way houses for youth, parks and while cruising on trip to and from island. When working with children you could have an overwhelming number of children and teens. Most church buildings are not large enough to handle the large number. You need to plan for and out-of-doors program. We have a Power Point Training presentation that can be downloaded from our resources page. There are 135 churches on the island. Most are located in the fishing villages. Those on the East end of the island are 46 miles away. (Two lane road) Some of the areas are: Freeport - Few are modern with large congregation most are smaller with neighborhoods full of children. Eight Mile Rock - Largest number of churches. This community is made up of many fishing villages. West End - (Fishing Villages) 32 miles from your hotel. East End - (Fishing Villages) 46 miles from your hotel. back to top	The music ministry may take place in local churches, community buildings, children's orphanages, half way houses for youth, parks and while cruising on trip to and from island.
	Sports Clinics The typical sports on the island are soccer, basketball, rugby and baseball. If you have a coach or a team that would like to do clinics, we have a spot for you! We will schedule teams and tournaments for you to play in and an exciting week of training for the children and youth of the island. Back to top Nursing Clinics The medical needs on the island are great. Most of the people living in the fishing villages cannot afford the high cost of medical care.
