I am trying to compile some of coreutils-5.0 on a Mac PowerBook G4 15".
If it is relevant I can post more details of the machine.

Following the INSTALL instructions I have performed the following:
  ./configure
  cd src
  make nl

The 'make' step fails as follows:
========================================================================
source='nl.c' object='nl.o' libtool=no \
depfile='.deps/nl.Po' tmpdepfile='.deps/nl.TPo' \
depmode=gcc /bin/sh ../config/depcomp \
gcc -DLOCALEDIR=\"/usr/local/share/locale\"
-DSHAREDIR=\"/usr/local/share\" -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I. -I.. -I.. -I.
-I../lib -I../lib    -g -O2 -c `test -f 'nl.c' || echo './'`nl.c
system.h:39: warning: could not use precompiled header
'/usr/include/unistd-gcc3.p', because: system.h:39: warning: macro
'getcwd' defined by ../config.h conflicts with precomp
../lib/regex.h:546: illegal expression, found `__restrict'
../lib/regex.h:546: syntax error, found `]'
../lib/regex.h:546: illegal function definition, found `)'
cpp-precomp: warning: errors during smart preprocessing, retrying in
basic mode make: *** No rule to make target `../lib/libfetish.a', needed
by `nl'.  Stop.
========================================================================

Is there any simple remedy?

If further details are needed, or if I should be asking elsewhere,
please say.
