Question about the character encoding names in iconv

Hi,

I was looking at http://www.gnu.org/software/libiconv/ and was wondering whose names do you use for character encodings? Is it a standard or something that only pertains to iconv. At first I thought it might be an IANA standard (http://www.iana.org/assignments/character-sets), but I see that “UCS-2BE” and “UCS-2LE” is not present in IANA’s page. Instead, IANA has given a name to UCS-2 w/o its “endianess”. Basically, I am looking to find a set of standard unique names for character encodings. I rather not use IANA because it doesn’t have 2 different names for UCS-2 Big Endian and Little Endian. Thanks.
