It's possible there was an error reading in the images. That seems
the most reasonable cause. On Solaris there is a libtiff in
/usr/openwin/lib which may get mixed up with the libtiff you
installed. Make sure /usr/openwin/lib is after the location of your
libtiff in LD_LIBRARY_PATH
It already was in the right order; i.e.
[...]:/usr/local/lib:[...]:/usr/openwin/lib. I then even mv'd the
system libtiff into a different dir so it wouldn't be noticed at all,
and the problem persists.
