I have a hp pavilion desktop that had been happy running dual boot
ubuntu and win10 and a Dell laptop likewise. Now, they have a gray
screen blocking the display. By fumbling around I can usually, finally
get one of the systems loaded and they run ok. I would love to have the
startup screen return to allow system selection.
I am not, by any means, knowledgeable on a problem like this. I am
trying "Boot-Repair-Disk" in the failsafe mode. On the HP, the message
is, " Purge kernels the reinstall last kernel sda5(ins). This may
require several minutes....
How many minutes?? or hours??. My patience to date has stopped after
approx. 30-40 minutes watching the blue bar move back and forth. How
long should I wait???
PLz offer advice and help.
I have not yet tried to re-install Grub from scratch for fear of doing
more damage.
Thank you,
chuck
