[Help-gsl] fitting

hi,
I am not native english speaker and I dont clearly understand to the 
definitions of some functions, exactly first two from definition of 
gsl_multifit_function_fdf
could be found here:

I have read the manual pages about this many times, but I am not much clever at 
all...
please can anyone explain it to me?
