That goes without saying - but while GCC may be the most ubiqutous compiler these days (and I am not saying that this is a bad thing, or that there's anything wrong with GCC), it doesn't mean it's the one that produces fastest running code.
Perhaps you'd like to post such bug reports to the gcc developers or you would like to contribute to its development itself and improve its performance? Do remember to include your compilation flags when submitting such bug reports and as many details as seem relevant. There's no reason why gcc shouldn't be the fastest. :-) - Jordi G. H.
